A challenge board gives the opportunity for students to have a choice of activities related to the subject they're learning about. The activities can be derived from all subjects including art, social studies, language arts and music, or even be based in non-school activities, like talking to an expert in the field or volunteering. The challenge board not only gives students freedom to choose an activity that suites there interests, it also gives them the opportunity to apply their science learning to real life experiences. I plan to use challenge boards as an opportunity to give students a feeling of ownership of their science subject and a chance to make that pivotal connection between science learning and real life.
